1999

We partied...we wrote code.  We became table top MS Pac Man and FOOSBALL masters!

Daily foosball games at 10am and 2pm with lunch/gym from 11:30-1:30.

little work was done but the paychecks kept coming in biweekly on direct deposit.

we felt guilty but then again when a big project would hit they expected us to literally work 55-70hr weeks for 4-6 weeks to get it done...

so it kind of all balanced out in one way or another...

1998

The internet was still kinda fledgling in 1998.  I mean you had internet access mostly via AOL dialup at home on a 14.4k baud modem.

At work they had these things called ISDN lines which we 56k and they could bond several together to make a nice office internet connection.

They also had this new fangled thing called "T1".  Then they had a thing in 1999-2000 called DS3, which was 27 T1s bonded together to make a super high speed pipe.

Back when it began...

This blog is called dot com to the dot bomb.

It is my reminiscing back in the internet "dot com" boom days when I was a young consultant in the "IT" and "Web development" industry in Chicago IL USA.

You see, websites had just become "mainstream".

There were guys called "domain squatters" who went out and bought 1000s of domain names and sat on them until the larger corporations wanted them and then they sold the rigths for tens of thousands of dollars, for example www.chase.com etc.
